ProVision Agronomists Receive Ongoing Education and Training

At ProVision Partners Cooperative, we're continually learning and training so that we can serve our customers with the best information and methods possible. Our agronomists recently attended the two-day Wisconsin Agribusiness Classic in Madison, where they learned the latest in crop production, nutrient management, and weed mitigation.

"As part of being a Certified Crop Advisor, our agronomists have to have 40 hours of training every two years," said Brad Mathson, lead agronomist. "This helps keep us up-to-date on all facets of agronomy."

At this recent training, weed control was a headlining topic.

"We're seeing some new weeds and more concerns with weeds like giant ragweed, pigweed, and others," said Mathson. "There was a lot of time spent on understanding those weed problems, as well as chemical control and mechanical control methods to help manage those problems."

The use of fungicides has grown exponentially for soybean and corn crops, and timing is crucial when applying it.

"We received advice on herbicide timing, as well as the latest information on regulation, nutrient management planning, and the rules coming down the pipeline that we're going to have to manage for our customers," Mathson added.

Researchers shared information on the different chemicals and treatment methods.

"Mother Nature always throws a monkey wrench in, which makes this a challenging business, but this training allows our agronomists to do a better job helping our customers," said Mathson.
