Get Your Soil Tested with Help from ProVision Partners
Posted: 12/6/2022
Now is an important time to get your soil tested and ProVision Partners is here to help. Monitoring the soil is especially critical when determining the appropriate type and amount of fertilizer to use.
Brad Mathson, lead agronomist, recently shared what he’s witnessing with soil test results and the impact it’s having on the crop yields.
"12% of the soil tests we’ve done in our Western region were less than 5.5% PH," Brad stated. "When PH levels are low, the impact of fertilizer absorption is decreased. For example, with a 4-5% PH, you’re only getting about 30% (not sure of amount) absorption of fertilizer by the plant. So, making sure you manage PH levels can save you money and ensure you’re not wasting fertilizer.”
When soil test results are compared with actual crop yields, the connection is obvious. If soil PH is adjusted, it can make a big difference. He noted that in one example field, the PH adjustment led to a difference of 40 bushels per acre.
"That's quite a bit of acreage we're losing, not to mention plant health issues, degradations, etc," he said, adding that ProVision Partners can help customers get the data needed, as well as help them understand the data to best make educated decisions.
"You want to be in the sweet range. So, understanding that soil tests and making recommendations is going to save you a lot of money and make what you put out there more useful, and put more grain in the grain bin at the end of the season," he said. "It all comes with knowledge and understanding. We'll sit down and really go through the data to help you make the best decision for your operation."
